More Great Activities:

Flat Bottom Odyssey

Gene Jaeger, author of Flat Bottom Odyssey will be on hand over the weekend to hand sign copies off his memoir to festival goers.  He will be located by the Illinois LST Association Booth.  Flat Bottom Odyssey is a Navy Memoir from World War II: In 1941, European ports were held by the enemy. The heavy weapons needed to retake the captured lands would have to be delivered in flat-bottomed, bow-loading ships that could load 20 Sherman tanks in Philadelphia and deliver them, under fire, on hostile beaches. One man, who served on an LST (Landing Ship, Tanks) tells the story of the untrained men going into battle in untried ships, called upon to do on-the- job training and fight a war in the process.

Pillars of Honor Exhibit

Our WWII Vets now number less than three million. We are losing these valuable souls at an alarming rate of 1,200 each and every day. The average age of these Vets is 89 years old.
There are thousands of WWII Vets that are unable to travel to Washington, D.C. to visit THEIR memorial due to illness, travel restrictions, accessibility to transportation or someone to assist them with the trip. These Vets are missing out on the opportunity to get first-hand knowledge about their memorial and more importantly the recognition of their contribution to our nation.
Pillars of Honor in working with the architect, Friedrich St. Florian, of the WWII memorial has secured the original scale model of the National World War II Memorial. This model was used for the presentation of the concept for what is now a prestigious memorial to permanently provide respect and remembrance to our WWII Veterans. The Pillars of Honor Exhibit will be held at the Seneca Township High School West Campus with Legacy Girls doing their “Andrews Sisters” review at 12pm and the Pillars of Honor Presentation at 1pm. We encourage all veterans to visit the Pillars of Honor website and download and mail in the reservation form to be given priority seating and to be listed in the program for the event.
